Brake and clutch cleaners typically contain fast-evaporating solvents and propellants. The main ingredient is aliphatic hydrocarbons (like light petroleum naphtha), making up 60–90% of the formula. These dissolve grease, oil, and brake dust. Isopropyl alcohol (5–25%) is often added for residue removal and quick drying. Some formulas include acetone or methyl ethyl ketone (1–10%) for stronger degreasing. Aerosol versions use propane, butane, or carbon dioxide (10–30%) as propellants. Ethyl acetate (1–5%) may be included for its drying and solvent action. These products contain no water, oils, or detergents, ensuring zero residue. All ingredients are highly flammable and harmful if inhaled or swallowed, so proper ventilation and protective gear are essential during use.
